In recent years, gaming has become a multibillion-dollar industry. According to an article by Investopedia, the industry is estimated to reach 260 billion in revenue by 2025. So now would be a suitable time to turn your gaming hobby into profit. We have compiled a list of ways people are making money through gaming which will hopefully inspire you.

Participating in a tournament

You may remember Kyle Giersdorf, who won the first Fortnite World Cup and took home 3 million dollars at the age of 16. People enter tournaments and compete in group competitions organised by Esports. It is not even necessary to reach the finals to start earning. Only professional gamers or extremely good ones can do this though. Do not be disheartened by this; no one is born a pro so practice, practice and more practice. The earnings may not be a lot at first, but you never know where it may take you.

Getting paid to Live stream

Unlike participating in tournaments, this method does not require one to be pro at gaming to gain success. From what I have seen, it just takes people who enjoy video games and a bit of imagination. Twitch remains the biggest platform for this, but YouTube is also an option. They earn their money through advertising, subscriptions, and donations. It may take a long time to reach the success of some of the most popular channels, but if it is something you love, the journey there should be fun.

Hosting a gaming YouTube channel or podcast

Channels like Jacksepticeye, or top ranking ones like PewDiePie, are examples of the potential of making money doing this. These are people who are highly opinionated where gaming is concerned and love all things gaming. Like live streaming, the channels make money through advertising, sponsorships, and other forms of YouTube monetisation. So again, just love what you do and do it well, and this could be you.

Farming in-app or in-game currency

As a seasoned gamer, you know how tedious farming for points can be. At the same time, it cannot be avoided because the more you have, the better the gaming experience. There are people who saw an opportunity here and started farming for points or in-game currency to sell them to other players by simply private messaging them online. Another way to make money while playing games.

Creating video games guides and tutorials

The gaming industry is seeing newcomers now more than ever. The first place anyone goes to, not just gamers, for information is Google or YouTube. This created an opportunity for people to create websites for written guides or YouTube channels to upload video tutorials for video games. They often give insights into video games which means time was invested to solidify their position as experts. This could be you already in your small circle of friends. If so, you will be interested to know that there are platforms like GameFAQs, which has a “Bounty Program” that pays people cash for being first to write an in-depth Walkthrough or guide for a video game.

Whoever said that passions do not pay was clearly wrong. With a solid internet connection and good quality gaming equipment, a lot can be achieved. If there are other ways of how gaming can be monetised that we did not mention, please do share on the comment section or social media pages.
