You just signed up for a data deal and keep getting told you need to set up an APN? Today I will explain as best as I can what an APN is and why it’s important.
So, what is an APN?
In simple terms, it is possible to keep your current mobile network operator like MTN, Vodacom or Cell C for your voice calls but still take advantage of data deals out there in the market. This can be done through an APN. There are mobile network operators like Mr Price mobile, FNB mobile, Nashua mobile, Airmobile and many more who offer this option. Just find a good deal, sign up then set up your APN.
When do you set up an APN?
Once you have confirmation from your mobile network operator that your account is set up. You will need to go into your phone settings to set the APN settings according to their specifications. This only needs to be done once and the settings remain saved on your phone. An Access Point Name (APN) is the name for the settings your phone reads to set up a connection to the gateway between your service provider and the internet. This is the reason it needs to be set up.
